The last 18 hours exceeded all of our expectations… We drove from Colorado to Davenport, Nebraska yesterday to spend some time with Harold, whom we met via the Concerts In Your Home website. It wasn’t a good time for us to set up a house concert, so instead, Harold invited us to come see his farm, enjoy a meal, and relax. We had no clue that we would have a life-changing experience.
Harold is a former inner-city social worker, turned oceanographer, turned professor, turned park ranger, turned organic farmer in the midst of GMO-run Nebraska. He has recently taken on an apprentice in 14-year old Hannah, who is the SWEETEST and most hard-working young woman. We spent last night eating fruits & veggies from the garden, heirloom BLTs, and chocolate zucchini cake that Hannah made, while having incredible conversation about the work they do to feed healthy food to the surrounding 4 counties.
After learning that Hannah loves to sing, we broke out the guitar & played a few songs for her. When we were finished, she said, “Well, I now know what I want to do!” It was such an inspiration to us to know that we could inspire her dreams of becoming a touring musician one day.
This morning, after taking a tour of Harold’s commercial kitchen, food store, greenhouse, and farm, they sent us off with homemade crackers, lots of veggies for the road, and big hugs. Our hearts are full, and our bellies are about to be! We’ll be smiling about this for awhile. XxoO, JJ + SF
